MediaCombo provided production services for Korean outdoor apparel maker NEPA’s broadcast commercial filmed in New York City.

NEPA and their agency, Cheil Worldwide, decided to use New York City as the backdrop for their winter jacket video and print campaign featuring the celebrated Korean actress and fashion model Kim Sun-young.

MediaCombo’s brief was to find iconic New York locations where Kim Sun-young could pose wearing the NEPA jacket in the snow. We scouted and cleared several rooftop locations with dramatic views of midtown Manhattan, Brooklyn Bridge Park and a river front lot in Greenpoint to shoot the scene with the construction crane.

The catch: the shoot was scheduled for the end of July when the temperature is typically over 32°C. The brief also called for a working snowmaking machine, similar to those used at ski resorts, suspended from a construction crane. These machines only operate at cold temperatures!

Star With Limited Availability

Creative Director Man Ki Baek at Cheil Worldwide, Seoul, tapped director Kwang Goeng Yu, aka Liukh to direct the project. Liukh’s striking visual style has made him the go-to director for beauty and automotive commercials in Korea. He had also worked with Kim Sun-young on several previous shoots.
